Blocks and elements

The element types in a Gensy template — text, image, link, social media, button, banner — and how blocks and sub-blocks lay them out.

Every template is built with the same types of elements, placed in blocks and sub-blocks. Each one is adjusted in the inspector and can carry a display condition.

Element types

  • Text — fixed, or dynamic when it contains a variable.
  • Image — from the gallery or uploaded (2 MB maximum).
  • Link
  • Social — social icons, in a row or a column.
  • Button
  • Campaign banner
  • Row, block and sub-block — the layout containers: a row holds blocks (two columns = two blocks in a row, Flex or Grid), and a block can hold sub-blocks, one level deep.

Two elements fill themselves in: Department displays the employee’s department (offered if the workspace has departments, from the Starter plan up; hidden for an employee without one), and Logo the logo set in Settings → Brand.

Images

Source by URL, Gallery or Logo; link, display mode, size; Square, Rounded or Circle shape (several email clients still render the image square). Overlay (employee) image places the photo on a banner background, with size and X/Y position. The N rendering notes button flags what some email clients won’t reproduce, such as rounded image corners or more than three remote images.

Social icons

Icon only or icon and text; shape, original-logo or monochrome palette, colours and size; row or column layout; ten networks (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, TikTok, Twitch, Tumblr, Google), whose link can contain a variable.

Decorators

A prefix or suffix on a field, as an icon — email, phone, mobile, address, website, fax, arrow — or as text, such as “T:”. Shape, colours and size are adjustable.

Blocks and sub-blocks

A block groups elements and lays them out with its own spacing and alignment; a sub-block does the same inside it. That’s what lets you place a label and a value side by side without adding more rows. A condition set on a block hides all its contents.

Shared mailbox

If the Outlook add-in is connected, the Variables panel also contains a Shared mailbox section, to display the name of the person replying from an address such as info@. See the Shared mailboxes page.

Spacing

In the inspector’s Margin / Padding section (Padding only for an element), type each side directly in place; a small panel adds a slider and quick values, and the link button ties the four sides. The up and down arrows adjust it; Shift steps by 10.
